Free Sofas! – Some brilliant Red Sox Nation marketing

Posted by Karen Renzi

Yes, we are Red Sox fans here and of course elated about last night’s World Series win! But a part of me is wishing that sofa we bought at Jordan’s Furniture back when we lived in Massachusetts fell under the “Monster Deal” promotion they launched this year – because if it did we’d have a nice fat rebate check coming to us!

Talk about some brilliant marketing. Continue reading ‘Free Sofas! – Some brilliant Red Sox Nation marketing’

Hello Beyondus,
I have a question regarding customer appreciation and how best to show it.

Going beyond Thank you notes, what do you think of thank you gifts? After the sale and at holiday time? Is it appropriate to ask for referrals at the same time that you deliver the gift.

Generally speaking what is most appreciated? Food? Flowers? Coffee cups, pens? Is there a wrong way to give a thank you gift?

WHAT
Obviously thank you notes are a great way to express appreciation to your clients. And in this age of electronic communication, a handwritten note can be a great way to stand out and it shows clients that you took that extra little bit of time and effort. As for thank you gifts, when choosing what to give, think about what you would appreciate receiving as a client. Most likely it is not logoed mugs, pens or other items – I would save those for tradeshow giveaways or possibly as leave behinds at meetings. I think food is Continue reading ‘Q&A: Thank You Gifts – What, When, How’

The Next Sam Walton?

Posted by: Amy Reynolds

On Sunday, Dixon, my 4 year old, asks me if Daddy can make him some cookies to sell.  I said Mommy can help you make cookies.  He’s like now?  I’m like sure, let’s go see what we have.  So, we look and I tell him, we have brownies, will that work?  He says yes so we go to it.  When we are done, he says now can I go door to door selling them?  I’m like uh, it’s 7pm, I don’t think so but you don’t have school tomorrow so how ’bout you sell them then?  He’s like okay!

Wakes up and first thing he says is “Can I go sell brownies now?”  It was early in the morning so I told him in a little bit.  So, at noon, I take a few moments and set them up outside.  Dixon told me he wanted to go door to door with the brownies because he tried a lemonade stand at daycare over the summer and he didn’t make any money.  I tell him to try it again and see how he does.  So, Madi and Dixon make some signs, and with their big brother supervising, they are ready to go.

They sold all the brownies and 2 pitchers of Lemonade and made over $10!  I was shocked!!!  The supplies were probably $2 so not bad for a 4 year old and 8 year old.  They had cars stopping to buy, people walking by, it was so cute.  Neighbor kids came to help, it was a lot of fun for everyone.

The real question is – was their success the right product on a hot sunny day, their marketing, location of their stand or just because they were so darn cute?
